Congressman Brian Fitzpatrick Visits Teledyne Judson Technologies to Learn About Infrared Detectors and Their Uses
Montgomeryville, Pennsylvania – September 12, 2023–On September 5th, Teledyne Judson Technologies (Judson), was pleased to host Congressman Brian Fitzpatrick (PA-01) for an information session and tour of the Judson facility in Montgomeryville, PA.
The Judson facility has been in Montgomeryville since 1969 and manufactures infrared focal plane arrays (FPAs) and photodiodes covering the spectrum from near infrared (NIR) to very long wavelength infrared (VLWIR), and IR cameras which enable discovery and address today's pressing challenges across the spectrum. Judson’s unique capabilities in infrared detection and semiconductor fabrication support advanced manufacturing, US Defense and national security, energy, health, and transportation.
Congressman Fitzpatrick attended a briefing with Judson management about their products and importance in the semiconductor supply chain. He stated, “Semiconductors play an increasingly important role in American innovation, job creation, national security, and our defense industrial base.” The scale of Judson’s operations and importance to government, defense and our nation’s security was stressed as well as Judson’s superior infrared capabilities that provide enhanced vision for defense, climate monitoring, rail safety and many more applications.
The topic of workforce development in the Montgomeryville area and how to utilize local community colleges as well as traditional college and university graduates to ensure that the company is prepared for impending growth was also discussed. “Finding enough people with the technical skill set required to fill operational needs at Teledyne’s manufacturing facilities presents challenges. We are interested in working with higher education institutions and government at all levels in support of K-12, community college certification programs, undergraduate, and graduate programs to build optics/photonics/ microelectronics education,” stated Ravi Guntupalli, Teledyne VP and General Manager.
In a company town hall conversation, the topic of the benefits, challenges, and ethics of artificial intelligence (AI) was addressed with Congressman Fitzpatrick stating, “I am a big believer in America setting the standards worldwide, rather than falling behind.”
Rep Fitzpatrick presented a US flag that had been flown over the US capital as well as a certificate showing that Teledyne Judson Technologies has been entered into the US Congressional Record to Ravi Guntupalli, VP and General Manager.
